With our Corporate and Business Web Hosting Plans, we are able to provide unmetered web hosting, which means we don't measure resource usage for billing purposes, however it does not mean unlimited usage.
We often get asked what exactly "unmetered" means, and the answer is simple.
We let you use the services you need, however we do actively monitor resource usage and will let you know if your usage is affecting the performance of the server, or is becoming unreasonable to a point where the expense of operating your account exceeds your monthly billing.
So when would unmetered, become metered?
If you are one of the small percentage of sites we host that need to use significantly more resources than what we consider fair, we won't charge for excessive usage in arrears; instead we will email you to discuss future charges and/or alternative options if we deem usage to be in excess.
What are examples of excessive usage?
- You use your web site storage space to store and/or backup large quantities of files.
- You start using large amounts of bandwidth hosting files for other website.
- Setup one web site, then setup dozens of email accounts for other domains.
- Setting up a media type of website that consumes a large amount of diskspace and/or bandwidth. Media includes online videos, images, music etc.
As a general guide we do not permit high-volume sites, file archives, sites that contain large media files, or free email services. This type of excessive usage would require VPS or dedicated servers.
If you're unsure about any of these conditions please email us to discuss your options.
What constitutes a high-volume / high resource usage site?
There are a number of factors we consider and enquiries have to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Some of the factors we consider are:
Volume of monthly national visitor traffic.
Volume of monthly international visitor traffic.
Nature of website content.
Requirements of sites (e.g. database or static pages)
Quanity of diskspace used and what it is being used for
What is a file archive?
We consider file archives to be mass storage of images, music and videos where the purpose of their storage is for portability and/or download.
What is a free email service?
Free email refers to a Hotmail-type service where mailboxes and associated services are offered free to the public through a website or other medium.
Remember that 'Unmetered' is not the same as 'Unlimited'. There is no such thing as 'Unlimited' Web Hosting.
